We have a winner! The campaign for naming our new supercomputer is over!

The campaign was closed on 31 October 2020. Votes could be submitted for the options listed on hpc.kifu.hu More than 500 people chose to participate in the name-giving, and the competition was very close with only a few votes deciding on the winner.

The top 3 votes were:

  1. Komondor
  2. Attila
  3. Cerebellum

Komondor is expected to arrive late 2021 and the extended infrastructure will be available to the users in the spring of 2022. This new HPC will have a performance in the petascale range, that is, it will provide almost ten times more than our existing total HPC performance; about two-thirds of this capacity will come from the GPU accelerated partition, which has several hundred computes nodes and an architecture of at least 2 GPU/node.

The system will also include a separate, purely CPU-based partition, as well as dedicated AI and Big Data partitions. The system will be equipped with a storage system of more than 10 petabytes. The machine will use an especially environmentally-friendly solution for cooling – the so-called hot-water cooling technology –, which enables the recovery of the waste heat generated by the machine.

Thank you for all your votes!
